I am Trisha Moller and I am a quilter! This is my journey into the creativity of quilts!

I am a fourth generation quilter but the third generation was skipped. My mom never picked up the craft as she had too many other activities filling her plate including being a full time wife and mother, grandmother helping to raise three granddaughters and a full time RN. How she even did all of that, I am not sure. I think my mom was sleep deprived for many years and  I am grateful for the opportunities that she and my dad gave to me.

My grandmother, Flora and her mother, Arletta (my great grandmother) were the quilters in my past. My mom said that she remembered tracing and cutting out triangles for pinwheel blocks. She also said that she never wanted to cut another triangle LOL.

As one of the three youngest grandchildren, my nana did not teach me to quilt but she did try to help me to learn clothing techniques. They did not stick to me but skipped to one of my very talented nieces who sews like the best designer out there.

I credit my sister in law, Judith, with my beginning to quilt. She gave me some books, some fabric and lots of encouragement. That was all that it took! I was hooked!

The quilt below was made by my great grandmother in the 1930's. There are all types of fabrics here: serge, upholstery, dress, etc. My mom said she could pick out her grandfather's suit as well as curtains and slipcovers. The center picture is special to me but I did not notice that fabric until after my mom passed in 2012. I was working on a portrait quilt of my mom's high school graduation picture.  My grandmother made the suit that she wore and a scrap of the fabric is in the photo in the circle. I was very emotional about it for some reason. I found a direct link to my mom in this quilt beyond the fact that it was a wedding gift to my parents in 1946. That touched me deeply.

While my nana was a traditional quilter and hand quilted her other quilts (which did not survive, unfortunately) she would have been first in line for a rotary cutter and ruler when they became available. She was always ready for change and she would be amazed by what has changed in the world of quilting.

I am amazed myself when I look back at my 28 years of the craft. I look forward to what tomorrow will bring.

Dulcemente, (sweetly)

Trisha

A Brand New World!

No, I am not referring to the Aladdin song but I do have a new place to live! I have moved from Delaware to Lititz, PA. Temporarily in an apartment that is right in the center of the town and I can walk anywhere which is fabulous. I am also right in the center of fabric country since this is quilt central. I grew up about 90 minutes east of here so it is like coming home. Looking for a house is the big item on my list right now. Still searching...

We chose an apartment that has an oversized bedroom so I can set up my sewing area. Gotta have priorities, yes? My husband was okay with it which I appreciated greatly. Stools at the counter take the place of my dining table for now. We have our grand dog, Floppy, with us for a while so she is my partner in sewing!

I have been here about three and a half weeks but I love it! If you live near here, you know that it is a lovely area with very pleasant people. And now that the Mid-Atlantic Shop Hop is in full swing, I have been able to visit some shops this year. So many lovely shops in the state of Pennsylvania. If you are hopping, check out the PA shops. I have been to Vintage Pink and Green in Weissport and The Quilted Crow in Palmerton. Wooden Bridge in Kutztown has sooooooooooo much fabric! This is just a small list! Plenty more! Old Country Store! Burkholder's! Log Cabin! I could go on and on!

I have been able to teach twice since arriving which has been wonderful. The Old Country Store has a long list of classes and I was able to teach the villages class there July 18 and 25. The students created some lovely villages for Christmas as well as others. I have created some gallery photos to showcase their village beginnings!
These are so very different and yet the technique is the same. I LOVE teaching the villages because I learn so much watching my students. I also meet so many new people and a few that I have met along the way.

This past weekend I had some retreat friends in the class and another surprise. One student was a teacher from my elementary school and I had her for music! And her student teacher was another music teacher that I knew. Small world!

Some other big news! I was so emotional about leaving Church Street Fabrics where I used to help out and teach. But, in passing in The Old Country Store, I mentioned to one of the owners that if  there were ever a need for another person, that I would love to work there. Well, it just so happened that someone had just retired and she had not even advertised yet. So three days later I was hired and I am so excited and honored to be part of one of my favorite stores. MORAL: always ask for things because you never know!

If you are hopping this summer, please stop by the Old Country Store or check it out online. The shop has much more than just quilting needs.

I will leave you with a few pictures from the Mid-Appalachian Quilt retreat that was held in June 2025 in Gettysburg, PA. Had some wonderful ladies in my villages and sunflowers classes there. The sunflowers pattern is one of my designs and I love what these students came up with in the colors. And a village based on a photograph at sunset. Just beautiful.
Thanks for reading! Hopefully I will have a new home soon but in the meantime I will keep quilting! Hoping that you will have some time this summer to sew.

Piecefully,

Trisha

Glad you've got a job in a quilt store! I haven't been up to that area yet but I have this set stores on my list. Thanks for posting my happy village! It was so much fun (once I started the details 😉)

I thoroughly enjoyed the HV class on the 25th and have been working on it every day since. It looks much different from the photo here! Welcome to Lititz! I moved to this area a few years ago and love it!
