I am Trisha Moller and I am a quilter! This is my journey into the creativity of quilts!

I am a fourth generation quilter but the third generation was skipped. My mom never picked up the craft as she had too many other activities filling her plate including being a full time wife and mother, grandmother helping to raise three granddaughters and a full time RN. How she even did all of that, I am not sure. I think my mom was sleep deprived for many years and  I am grateful for the opportunities that she and my dad gave to me.

My grandmother, Flora and her mother, Arletta (my great grandmother) were the quilters in my past. My mom said that she remembered tracing and cutting out triangles for pinwheel blocks. She also said that she never wanted to cut another triangle LOL.

As one of the three youngest grandchildren, my nana did not teach me to quilt but she did try to help me to learn clothing techniques. They did not stick to me but skipped to one of my very talented nieces who sews like the best designer out there.

I credit my sister in law, Judith, with my beginning to quilt. She gave me some books, some fabric and lots of encouragement. That was all that it took! I was hooked!

The quilt below was made by my great grandmother in the 1930's. There are all types of fabrics here: serge, upholstery, dress, etc. My mom said she could pick out her grandfather's suit as well as curtains and slipcovers. The center picture is special to me but I did not notice that fabric until after my mom passed in 2012. I was working on a portrait quilt of my mom's high school graduation picture.  My grandmother made the suit that she wore and a scrap of the fabric is in the photo in the circle. I was very emotional about it for some reason. I found a direct link to my mom in this quilt beyond the fact that it was a wedding gift to my parents in 1946. That touched me deeply.

While my nana was a traditional quilter and hand quilted her other quilts (which did not survive, unfortunately) she would have been first in line for a rotary cutter and ruler when they became available. She was always ready for change and she would be amazed by what has changed in the world of quilting.

I am amazed myself when I look back at my 28 years of the craft. I look forward to what tomorrow will bring.

Dulcemente, (sweetly)

Trisha

In the shop the other day I saw a brand-new item at the register! The Shop hop has begun so we have had a large number of guests coming to Lancaster County for fabric. But this was a new one for me. One customer had a special way to tap. Her son had made a 3D star to hold her credit card for her hopping adventure. My colleagues and I had a chuckle as she paid easily with her card. Have you seen one of these? Since I saw it, I have done a little research. These may be purchased at Walmart and Amazon, etc. Too funny. Too bad the magic doesn't extend to making the charges disappear or the fabric to double! LOL

If you are hopping in the All MidAtlantic Shop Hop, have you come across a shop that is new to you that's a must visit? There are so many to visit but we cannot all get to all of the possibilities. Would you consider leaving a comment to share which shop is your must visit location. I would love to share them with others here.

So, maybe I am late to the paper plate party but I recently discovered a way to organize blocks for traveling to retreats and classes. PAPER PLATES! I am making a Peanuts quilt with some black lines through them and I want to be able to piece them as I piece another quilt. I saw someone on Instagram doing this and I thought it was genius. I took them to a retreat and another quilter saw them and joined the paper plate party too! I spent a bit more to get the better plates and it was worth it. If you use the inexpensive white ones, you could write on them as needed too. Guess there is room for both!

It is super convenient because I can lay them in my square plastic boxes to transport without them moving around and getting the pieces mixed up. Love it!

Are you looking for something to do when you are waiting in an office or just in front of the tv with nothing to sew? I found a book on the clearance table at Barnes and Noble that I keep near my end of the sofa.
I treated myself to some new colored pencils that are twistable. No sharpener needed. I take this with me now when I go to appointments., in the car, etc. I am not an expert drawer but it really gives me a great activity to replace some phone surfing. Much better than the news! So many different prompts and there is no need to go in order. I love to try to draw my own applique patterns for whimsical things, so I have had a fun time drawing new items. Give it a try and see what you think.

Well, that is all I have today. I hope that this summer finds you sewing up a storm and able to spend time with family and friends as well. I have a variety of projects on the various tables in my house. I feel like a squirrel sometimes distracted by the shiny new object. The shiny new object is the newest fabric or pattern or technique. Just need a thirty-two-hour day so I can sleep eight and still have lots of time to craft! How about you?

Piecefully,
Trisha
